The Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution Tuesday unveiled a four-point plan to protect information better. The program is to upgrade protection of people’s privacy and to hone the information protection industry.
The panel said the water-tight protection would back up the sustainable growth of the economy.
One of its plans includes the development of core technologies for information protection on a medium-and long-term basis.
The second is an innovative investment in research & development.
The third is the strengthening of the competitiveness of the information protection industry.
Lastly, the R&D would be made with steady input from users and consumers.
The committee said Korea would develop technologies to protect data as well as to detect, counter and analyze cyberattacks automatically.
It advised the government of picking promising startups for developing information-protection technologies.
The committee proposed that these startups be given opportunity not only to develop but also to test technologies they develop.
The panel also suggested the government strengthen education on information protection. A graduate school is necessary to foster experts on information protection technology.
It urged the government to create the global R&D fund to help local companies assist in going overseas.
Committee Chairman Chang Byung-kyu said, “South Korea is still below industrialized countries in the R&D investment on information protection.” He added that upgrading information protection is key to protecting people’s privacy as well as upgrading the fast-growing industry.
