CyWorld has declined blockchain technology firm Cigma Chain’s offer to store all data of CyWorld subscribers. CyWorld said it would attract investment to normalize its operation.

Cigma Chain said  Thursday it respected CyWorld’s decision. However, it added that it is ready to offer free-of-charge data storage for CyWorld Customers if necessary.

Cigma Chain said it has no intention of abusing personal data of CyWorld customers. It added that its objective was to store CyWorld customers’ data, not abusing their own information.

Despite CyWorld’s rejection, many CyWorld subscribers have applied to Cigma Chain to have their data stored.

A Cigma Chain spokesman said it would contact the CyWorld to permit it to store the data on their behalf.

CyWorld was the darling of the South Koreans in the late 1990s and early 2000s before Facebook debuted. CyWorld has been struggling with a financial burden and had declared that it would shut down the operation.

However, out of public cry, CyWorld said it would extend its service one more year.
