Klip, a cryptocurrency wallet on KakaoTalk, has exceeded 100,000 subscribers in one day. This is an unusual figure for blockchain-related services. The industry expects the entire blockchain/cryptocurrency market to be revitalized with Klip.
On the 3rd, Ground X(KakaoTalk’s Blockchain technology subsidiary) launched a cryptocurrency wallet called ‘Klip’. With the launch, an event was held to pay 50 Klay (equivalent to approximately 9,000 won) on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event that was expected to go on for a month ended after 21 hours of launch. “We are so surprised and thankful for their great interest and support,” said Jae-Seon Han, CEO of Ground X. “We feel more responsible for the industry.” he said.
It is highly suggested that services related to blockchain and cryptocurrency have made 100,000 subscribers per day. It has been proven that the public’s interest in cryptocurrency has not completely disappeared. With Klip’s large-scale subscriber acquisition, expectations for blockchain service activation have also increased.
The fact that Klip can easily exchange cryptocurrencies by linking with KakaoTalk friends is one of the main reasons for the possibility of revitalizing the cryptocurrency market. It is expected that Blockchain Application, which will be supported in the future, will help users by allowing the public to easily approach blockchain-based services.
An industry official said, “We expect Klaytn-based services and cryptocurrencies to be vitally activated by Klip. “If the mass adaptation that the blockchain industry desired for a long time can be realized with Kakao on the back, the entire industry will be flourished.”
Ground X’s Klaytn was also criticized by the blockchain industry for not having the full value of decentralization. This is because of a decision-making organization called Governance Counsel, which has halved the value of it’s decentralization.
Klaytn increased the “speed”, which was considered as a disadvantage of the blockchain, by simplifying decision making instead of giving up full decentralization. Here, the popularity of KakaoTalk was put in place and the possibility was proved through the Klip release. A Klaytn official said, “The main reason for entering Klaytn was the possibility of popularization through KakaoTalk. It is unreasonable to hold onto the value of decentralization when the popularization is necessary.”
