On October 19, the Korea Ministry of Interior and Security(MOIS) announced that it will issue mobile driver’s licenses. Starting end of this year, MOIS will apply blockchain technology to the driver’s licenses and IDs for government employees.
MOIS is currently developing the mobile ID with LG CNS and Raon Secure. The two companies will build a mobile identification platform and conduct a pilot project to introduce a public service card. It will also develop a mobile ID card wallet and public service card application for issuance and management. The mobile civil service card is made with DID technology utilizing blockchain and is scheduled to be issued in December.
The mobile ID card provides digital identification and do not need to issue a plastic version of personal authentication and certificate issuance. It can be used in both offline services such as facility access and rental services, and online services.
